Last weekend, the Operation Orion team went all the way to Yew Tee housing area to educate the public about the importance of recycling.

With all the manpower we had, flyers containing brief information about our project and programs were given to all the residents from 50 HDB blocks.

We first grouped ourselves into a few teams. Each team was allocated a few blocks to distribute the flyers. We then started informing and explaining to residents in the area about our Recycling project from door to door. Everything went smoothly and many residents showed concern over our project. Many also agreed to help us to prepare the recycling materials that we needed.

Early in the morning after Hari Raya Haji, the Orion-ers gathered, again, in front of YewTee MRT station and eagerly waited for the recycling program to start. This time, many secondary school volunteers and Operation Orion Alumni also came to join us in this meaningful event. They had greatly eased our jobs. After a short briefing, all teams got themselves ready at their respective areas. Once again, members visited the residents door to door to collect recyclable material such as old newspaper, old clothes and electronic products). We received all kind of things from the enthusiastic residents, even interesting items like toys and bicycle. Due to the overwhelming response from the residents, we had to make a few trips to the Karangguni’s shop.  xD

Even though it was a tiring day, it was really meaningful and eventful as well.

Hence, we would like to thank the Yew Tee Residents for being so enthusiastic and supportive on our collection day and of course, not forgetting, the help of all Orioners that planned and helped on that day.

Last but not least, millions thanks to the enthusiastic school volunteers and our beloved alumni who showed up on a weekend’s morning to help us.
