Operation Orion Bazaar: Board and Mascot
Operation Orion Bazaar Day 1 kicked off better than expected. After weeks of planning
by the Special Events Publicity team, we managed to execute some of the ideas put forward by
Orion members. Our keynote publicity events were the Piece Your Love project and the
Orion Mascot.
Both helped draw much attention to our Bazaar booth as curious onlookers, intrigued
by the Mascot, approached him and asked about Operation Orion. We further engaged
the onlookers by inviting them to fold paper hearts and write short messages to the
children of Mae Lod village as part of our Piece Your Love project. Through this active
participation, we hoped to have left a deeper, more lasting impression of our cause in
their minds.
Behind these 2 events, however, were posters, post-its, social media advertising and
promotional drives in lecture theatres. The Special Publicity team, though comparatively
small and very new, were driven by passion and chased a vision of promoting Orion to
NUS. Every member on the team spent hours in CE room, online or about campus to
create the publicity events and the buzz surrounding it. Truly, the Operation Orion 2011
Special Publicity team has achieved something new for Operation Orion.
Indeed, our efforts appear successful by the turn out at the Operation Orion Bazaar
Booth. Our fundraising efforts have seen quick sales and many donations while our
effort to engage the hearts and minds of the staff and students of NUS has resulted in the
completed tessellation of the Piece Your Love Board.
In retrospect, it has been a very heartening experience to be part of Operation Orion
Bazaar and witness the outpouring of empathy and generosity by the people of NUS.
