Publicity updates!

Hi all! While everyone is enjoying the holidays (unless you’re on internship/ working/ doing other boring stuff – then poor you), the publicity team has been consistently doing background work like updating facebook/ wordpress and more.

There are a number of tasks the publicity team has at hand currently to prepare for the next semester. Please look out for our recruitment posters that will be put up during the first few weeks of sem 1, our new “corporate” video as well as our team t-shirt that we will be wearing during our fundraising drive!

Speaking about the team t-shirt, the T SHIRT PROJECT is going really smoothly 🙂 The main committee has decided that our shirt colour this year will be the awesome MAROON. While the final design has not been set in stone, we have reached the final stages of designing and after a last round of voting, the final design will be out real soon! I will not put the designs here (keep you guys in suspense xD), but you can have sneak peeks of the t-shirt (though not all may make it into the final design):

Programmes Update!

Good day folks! It is time again for our weekly update and today, we will have a look on our Programmes front.

First up, it is developments in the Local CIP. Currently, we are in discussion with a number of organizations to be our Local CIP partners. There is a lot of scheduling and feasibility projections in the talks still, but that is just part of the process. Also, no promises right now but one potential partnership will involve therapeutic horse-riding, so keep your fingers crossed!

Anyway, some of you may ponder about the role of Local CIP in an Overseas CIP. Here in Operation Orion, we believe Local CIP is an important aspect of the Operation Orion experience because we structure it to be a complementary programme to the main Overseas CIP component.

We use the contrasting experiences between the Local and Overseas CIP to provide interesting insights that make Operation Orion a more holistic OCIP journey. And also, it really is just a great opportunity to serve our home community!

Now back to topic, the next big news is our first ever Orion Camp. It is still being planned out but it is very likely to be implemented. Orion Camp is intended to facilitate the bonding and camaraderie of Orion 2012 members, so there is going to be lots of fun from the go. It is projected to take place in the 3rd weekend of the semester so keep that weekend free!

Lastly, we have other exciting programs still in the works with which we hope to create a meaningful and memorable experience for this year’s Operation Orion so stay tuned for more news!

Operations updates

Hi all:)

Today we will be bringing you some updates from our very own Operations subcommittee that basically oversees the whole building process of our construction in Thailand.

While the trip itself (and thus the construction) is in December this year, the subcommittee has already started work. From evaluating last year’s operations to confirming materials needed and chicken farm design, the subcomm heads have come up with a list of things to confirm during the recce trip as well as other plans. Looking at the detailed Operations meeting minutes that they have meticulously written out, I believe that the construction will be in safe hands. 🙂 The committee has also been communicating with the Thai Youth Community Foundation to know more about the project we will be undertaking.

Recce trips are very important to Operation Orion, and this year’s is no exception. Recce trips allow the Operations heads and Operation Orion directors (and other members) to know exactly how that place looks like as well as check out the living conditions. They will also finally get to meet our Thai counterparts and discuss on what needs to be done. This year’s recce trip has been confirmed to be from 22nd to 25th June, and we look forward to knowing more about the chicken farm we will be building when they come back.

4th Main Comm Meeting

The first meeting since vacation started held on 15 May marked our 4th Main Committee meeting with many updates from all the subcommittees.

We have now worked out more details of the recee trip to Chiang Mai and a more structured approach to marketing was established.

The Programs subcomm unveiled a whole new bunch of really fun activities that they are working on to make Operation Orion even more unforgettable this year.

A tentative calender of Fundraising events was also announced so we now have a projected timeline to work with.

Finally, we discussed the all-important issue of the colour schemes of the simple Operation Orion work shirt (because what is a group without an awesome group T-shirt).

Operation Orion 2012 looks set to break new ground this year so stay tuned for more news!

Operation Orion Summer Party!

If you think Operation Orion is just about contributing back to the society, then you are wrong! It’s a place where we can forge friendships and have lots of fun too.

On the 4th of May, our Project Director, Choon Keat, invited the OO’11 and OO’12 members to his house for an evening of good food and plenty of games! We had fun all night and it dragged on to the dawn of the next day. So much to catch up and so much fun and laughter when we hang out together.

If you are interested to join our family, I am sure you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Thanks PD for hosting all of us! We had great fun and time catching up.
